DJ Ras M.G. (aka Marshall Goodman) is a drummer, vocalist, producer and turntablist DJ who has worked with Sublime, the Long Beach Dub Allstars and on numerous solo projects. Ras M.G. became the drummer for Long Beach legends Sublime in 1991. After a short run of regional touring and as the studio drummer on 90% of Sublime’s first subversive masterpiece, the now double platinum, 40 oz. To Freedom, Ras M.G. decided to take a break from music. A few years later, after Sublime had gained some national exposure on the very first Van’s Warped Tour, Ras M.G. agreed to work with Sublime on its self-titled third album. His contribution of samples, beats and rhythms led to such classics as “Doing Time” and the single "What I Got", which made it to #1 on the Modern Rock Chart. Ras M.G.’s turntablist skills on "April 26, 1992 (Miami)" were just a sign of what was to come from this skilled DJ. Following Sublime's demise after the death of its founder and lead singer Bradley Nowell, Ras M.G. joined the Long Beach Dub Allstars in 1997 with other former Sublime members. Ras M.G. and Michael “Miguel” Happoldt (founder of Skunk Records and producer of 40 oz to Freedom) become the studio gurus surrounding the output of Long Beach Dub Allstars’ two Dreamworks SKG albums – 1998’s Right Back and 2001’s Wonders of the World (eerily released on 9/11/2001). The latter featuring a performance by will.i. am on the track “sunny hours”, and a beautifully produced Ras M.G. title cut featuring Jamaican music legend Half Pint. LBDA broke up shortly after the tour supporting the release of Wonders Of The World. After forming the shortlived Dubcat with members of Hepcat and LBDA and the legendary Jamaican dub maestro “scientist”, Ras M.G. recently formed Rikshaw with fellow producer and live guitarist Miguel (Sublime/LBDA), Ikey Owens (Mars Volta) and brother Aaron Owens (Hepcat/Dubcat). In 2009 Field Marshall Goodman (Ras MG), and Miguel remixed “Broken Hearts Parade” which appeared on Good Charlotte’s “Greatest ReMixes”. Ras M.G’s turntable mastery can be heard on his latest multi-turntable orchestra with DJ Greyboy (Greyboy Allstars), and Opie Ortiz (LBDA vocalist and infamous Tattoo artist) called Warchurch, whose select material and live camera feed can be scoped at www.myspace.com/warchurch. Ras M.G. continues to bring his awesome selection of vinyl and rare turntable skills to venues around the U.S.
