UGK is a hip-hop duo from Port Arthur, Texas. Formed in 1987 by long-time friends Chad "Pimp C" Butler and Bernard "Bun B" Freeman, UGK is the official representation of Texas hip-hop music. They have officially released eight studio albums together. Their most recent release is a double-disc record that has been certified platinum and features appearances by artists such as Talib Kweli, Too Short, Rick Ross, Dizzee Rascal, Z-Ro, Three 6 Mafia, Slim Thug, Outkast, Lil John, Scarface, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane. In 2002, Pimp C was incarcerated for aggravated gun assault and Bun B was forced to begin a solo career. He contributed to tracks on other artists’ releases for a few years and then released his solo debut, Trill, in 2005. Pimp C was released from prison at the end of 2005 and released Pimpalation. UGK also have their own record label, UGK Records. |
