JAZZMATAZZ

Jazzmatazz is a project that fuses hip-hop with jazz. Guru (of Gang Starr) is the producer and principal vocalist of the Jazzmatazz recordings. He brings in a diverse handful of instrumentalists and vocalists from both the jazz and hip-hop world to collaborate on these albums. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 was released in 1993 and featured French rapper MC Solaar, Branford Marsalis, Liston Smith, Donald Byrd, and Roy Ayers. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality was released in 1995 and featured Kool Keith, Jamiroquai, Branford Marsalis, Courtney Pine, and Ronny Jordan. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 3: Street Soul was released in 200 and featured Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Craig David, The Roots, Herbie Hancock, and Isaac Hayes. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 4: The Hip-Hop Jazz Messenger: Back to The Future was released in 2007 and featured Damian Marley, Blackalicious, Common, Slum Village, Common, and others. The core of Jazzmatazz now consists of Guru, super-producer Solar, and DJ Doo Whop.
