CLIPSE

Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, The Clipse – brothers Pusha T and Malice – were one of the first groups to have associated with Pharrell Williams and the Neptunes camp. Williams first met the duo in the early 90s and was very impressed by their talents and helped them get signed in Arista in 2001. Williams and partner, Chad Hugo, produced their first full-length release, Lord WIllin’, in 2002. On the strength of the smash-hit “Grindin’,” the album hit the Top Ten of the R&B/Hip-Hop and Billboard 200 charts and eventually went gold. In the years between their first and second album release, there were some legal issues with their record label. During this time, The Clipse issued a series of mixtapes and set up their Re-Up label. In the fall of 2006, The Clipse released their second full-length album, Hell Hath No Fury. The album received uncommonly strong reviews from both mainstream and rap publications, praising both the inventiveness of their lyrics and the exotic elements of the Neptunes’ production. They have since toured the world including the European festival circuit in the summer of 2007. To date, Hell Hath No Fury peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 200 and number 2 on both the Billboard Rap Albums list and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list. Additionally, multiple media communities including Prefix Magazine, Blender Magazine, and Pitchfork Media have listed this album as one of the top ten albums of the year.
